Today involved a trip to Yogiji's Food Mart, at the suggestion of my office mate Sumant. I now have good chai, a mulligatawny soup mix that is according to its packet is made using technology developed by an Indian Ministry of Defence research lab, and some dal makhani. I also bought a jar of what looks like a good tamarind paste, though I gave that to my mother since we were having curry for dinner tonight when I visited. I can see myself buying many more things from this store.

My nephew has started to talk more - not great at vocalising, but his comprehension's quite good. Today's adventures involved picking up sticks in the front yard to add to the kindling pile for our Christmas barbecue, kicking my old soccer ball around and taking turns cleaning off bits of his whiteboard so that he could draw something new (I must admit, I too am fond of applying the holding-three-whiteboard-pens-at-once-and-scribbling technique). I'm told that he did the majority of the work in making himself scrambled eggs the other day too, though needed help with the milk-pouring to get the proportions right. He's still doing quite well for a two-year-old though, I think.

I'm told South of India in New Brighton is good. Has anyone been?
