It strikes me that a few interesting things have happened recently, and that I haven't updated for a while. So, a general summary follows:
In a couple of months or so I'll be moving, all going well. Not moving far, but at least Out - which should be good for having a bit more independence and learning some life skills that were really well overdue. I was getting ready to move out a couple of years ago, then sudden job-loss and subsequent lack-of-finding-new-job-induced depression shot down that idea. So I may be moving into the flat above my sister's, when the current annoying tenant moves out.
Further to this goal, I went shopping for housewares the other night when a Big Sale was on. Briscoes has Big Sales relatively frequently, but this one was an "up to 60% off" sale, so it seemed like a good idea to have a check there. I ended up spending $270 (ca. US$150, for those in need of conversion) on a bunch of stuff that would have cost $530 at the non-sale price, so I think I did fairly well. This included pots, cutlery, crockery, a toaster, a toasted sandwich maker, a kettle, a teflon-coated frying pan, a pair of good Wiltshire knives, towels and a few other sundries. Yay for domesticity.
Work has been annoying - I have a contract for a Significant Amount of Money which I'm waiting to hear back about, and they're two weeks overdue on when they said they'd have signed off on their budget for it. This makes me Unhappy - I'd really like to get it done and out of the way so I can seriously consider other work. So hopefully I'll hear back from them soon.
University work has been similarly frustrating - I now have a desk and a couple of small infrared LED arrays to play with, but I'd really like a working computer/account/local admin access soon, thanks. These things are kind of necessary to the process of actually getting work done.
My social life has been relatively interesting, for a change. I'm managing to get out and see more people now than I've been in touch with for quite a long time. KAOS parties and socialising in the UCSA, a flatwarming for people I met through IRC (yes, it's the social life of a geek, still), and other such things. I finally managed to drop in and visit
aquitaine some time when people were actually home, and dropped off my Claire Voyant and Hungry Lucy CDs for her to listen to (thanks again for the birthday present, Victoria!), and to have a natter. There's still some people that I need to track down and do socialising with soon. You probably know who you are.
I'm of half a mind not to post this next bit, but... well, it's 6:22am, and brain seems stuck in early-morning-post-party-talking-in-the-kitchen mode. So I'll let it stand, for now. However, in themorning noon I might wake up with a "Oh no what on Earth did I post last night?" thought and delete it.
I've been talking with someone a bit more often, recently. An interesting young lady, whose company I seem to quite enjoy. And because I'm quite slow on the uptake about such things, I think I've finally admitted to myself that, were the circumstances conducive, I might find her Quite Interesting Indeed.
Knowing my luck, the lady in question would probably not be prone to being Interested in the likes of me, I'd have another horrendous case of bad timing (know this, gentle reader; that I have historically been Fate's Bitch in this respect), and even if she were Interested I'd probably be too oblivious and/or overanalysing to notice without much blatant beating around the head on the matter.
All the same, it is nice to have intriguing people around who're attractive in more than just the physical sense to pique one's Curiosity. So to speak.
I'm listening to Curve's Come Clean again, after not listening to this CD in ages. It's good stuff.
