It appears the bus has stopped, police secured the area, two offenders arrested and the other 15 people on the bus are safe.

This kind of thing isn't supposed to happen in Christchurch, New Zealand. But it has. I have no idea what they were trying to achieve - it's not like there's anywhere to go in metropolitan bus from here. Still, I'm glad this kind of thing doesn't happen more often, and that we have the gun control laws that we have. Of course, it appears that enforcement is probably due for a little more funding...

Teen appears in court after apparent bus hijacking

A 17-year-old with a fake gun. Someone's played a little too much Grand Theft Auto, maybe? What a dick. It's only through luck and police diverting traffic that no-one got seriously injured.

On another note, I'm less than impressed with the paper's reportage, too. The story isn't particularly cohesive, repeats itself ("A convoy of 11 police cars..." and "A convoy of a dozen police cars..."), and contains factual inaccuracies; about assignments of the police officers they talked to, and about the route that the bus took. Granted, I am not a reporter, but I don't expect that getting things like that correct would take a huge amount of attention to detail.

Heh, my current choice of music is ironic.
