The news, in briefs
Mar. 5th, 2004 03:05 pmLiterature review takes ages. It's times like this I wish I could get a direct neural interface or something, because my eyes don't like reading fast. Silly eyes.
Last night I spent a couple of hours to boring repetitive work in preparation for the APEC Science Ministers' Meeting, where our lab's going to be doing stuff at an Innovation Showcase, or some such. My contribution of filing, folding and collating will be nowhere near as classy as what
comikaze will be up to (i.e. Golluming), but it may help raise the profile of the lab and help us do Cool Stuff in the long run. And I may even be paid.
Speaking of paid, while there wasn't any tutoring work available for me this year, I'm being awarded a scholarship of NZ$10,000 1. In return, I'll be helping to develop some technology for interactive displays2 that may end up going to the World Expo in Japan in 2005. Looks like it could be a lot of fun, and good for me academically3, short-term financially and long-term Career-wise.
Dinner last night was good - medium-heat malai kofta with rice from La Tandoor on Milton St. The serving size was such that it was not only that night's dinner, but today's breakfast and probably tomorrow's too. Not bad for something like $11 (US$7.33), ne?
Right. Now time to get properly dressed, head off and demonstrate stuff for a guy called Bruce Campbell (not the actor, but still cool), then a lab function, meeting, and maybe a party after that. Whee.
---
[1] - Currently US$6,665.00 - damn, I should have ordered music and stuff when it was 71c to the dollar.
[2] - A.k.a. Like That Minority Report Stuff, or What I Was Already Doing For My Thesis.
[3] - As you can see, I'm getting into the habit of writing footnotes early :-)
