Tougher sentencing group the Sensible Sentencing Trust is calling for a "super prison" to be built, run by private enterprise with bonuses for reducing reoffending.

The central North Island appealed as a location for a super-jail because of its large areas of undeveloped land, the proximity of the army in the event of riots, and remoteness, which would discourage escapes, Mr McVicar said.

Justice Ministry figures issued at the weekend show police prosecuted a record number of people in 2003, but convictions were at their lowest level in a decade.




My brain is currently not exactly in a happy place, but rather in a dystopian Cyberpunk place where "near future" is getting to nigh Max Headroom-ish levels, somewhere out off the Desert Road...
