Being in the U.S. Armed forces is a bit like going to the Special Olympics: they give you medals just for showing up. When discussing historical war commendations today, I jokingly suggested there was probably a Global War on Terror Service Medal by now. Look what I found:

Got to catch up with people in town today who I hadn't seen in a while, including Ian Souness who I did 4th year COSC with, then worked with at Alchemy. Ended up meeting a guy called Chris Smith who apparently did some weapons and armour tech stuff on Lord of the Rings (primarily chainmail), and talked about all sorts of things including Alf's Imperial Army and the Siege of Malta. Interesting enough guy, though he does seem to talk more than he listens.
misskat's back is very tense. It needed considerably more work, but it was late and my hands don't have as much stamina as they used to.
For $9, I purchased my breakfast/dinner of "smashed potatoes" at The Bog. The dish consists of diced roasted potato with bits of bacon, onion and portobello mushrooms in gravy. It took a fair while to eat, especially with a pint of Guinness, but by the time I'd finished my stomach felt well-settled and happy for the first time in many days.
'Twas good to catch up with
theuns also, though he had to leave early due to a day full of debugging third-party source code tomorrow. I don't envy him that at all, especially when such work doesn't come with baseball bat privileges and access to the original developers.
