GenCon, Day 2
Aug. 15th, 2008 06:42 pmToday was a both a little busier and less busy than I'd hoped.
I went to a couple of Michael Stackpole seminars of characterisation and plot. Some stuff was familiar ground from things I've written, some was a validation of things I'd intuitively grasped at, and some extended me (especially when dealing with things at a novel length; I've not written something that big in that form before). Well worth the price of admission.
I also caught up with one of the Trade Day panelists I saw briefly on Wednesday who is involved with a library that seems to be in a similar setup to the libraries we've been working with on our games appreciation after school course. It was nice to be able to compare notes.
On the way between Whose Line and the seminars, I didn't budget anywhere near enough time to get from one hotel to another, and made some poor choices with what looked on the map like good ways to go, and ended up turning me around completely. I pushed myself a bit harder than I'd have liked, and popped my knee out some. Thankfully the hotel (now that I'm back here) has free ice. I guess I'll be taking it easy a bit tonight.
Also, some of the random cosplayers are scary. And not in the good way.
The Positive
The guys doing Whose Run Is It Anyway? (Shadowrun-themed improv) were great fun (the mission to go to the local Stuffer Shack" for cat food and to do the laundry went, predictably, horribly wrong).I went to a couple of Michael Stackpole seminars of characterisation and plot. The Not-So-Positive
My dealings with GenCon customer service haven't gone so well. Two hours of walking around between various bits of bureaucracy and the issue I wanted resolved still isn't. (It ended up with an "email this person", so I guess I'll find out what's going on when I eventually get a response.)On the way between Whose Line and the seminars, I didn't budget anywhere near enough time to get from one hotel to another, and made some poor choices with what looked on the map like good ways to go, and ended up turning me around completely.
