Man, I have just read far too many dystopic future stories to be truly excited about such advances.

There are actually two distinct processes going on in my brain over things like this: one is going "Damn that's impressive and cool!" and the other one is going "AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!"

*nod* I get the same kind of double vision at times. I actually think it's healthy for scientists and engineers, though - of the many things we need to understand when it comes to advancing technology, a big factor to consider is risk.

Still, that's one potentially good thing about some of the virtual worlds work I'm looking at: the ability to educate, and maybe even providing ways to explore consequences of actions without damaging the real world. If I can bring something into the world that helps enable that, I think I'll be dong okay.
