New Glasses!

My new windows of clarity into the world have arrived. They look like this:

From Glasses

With proper glasses to look over and "distinguished" greying hair, I am well on my way to looking the model of a Proper Academic. Also, modulo a small adjustment period, I shall be able to read far more stuff without risking the debilitating eye strain I've had for the last couple of months. Hurrah!

You know, I was just thinking the same thing about the glasses and grey hair, as I looked in the mirror the other day.
Pity I'm not an academic anymore... :(

Seriously, though, I've been in the oops, glasses not quite cuttingthe mustard boat and I know how much better you'll feel after you settle in to them. Yay!

My last pair broke a year or two ago and I didn't get around to replacing them until now. Bad me. But then, given the cost they're not a small item, either.

Looking good! If you need help with paying for glasses I heard this vague idea that you can get ACC for them, or some other kind of financial aid on account of being a student.

I know WINZ will give people grants for them, but they also expect you to have no money whatsoever and are actively seeking full time employment before they'll help you. ACC only supports that kind of thing when an accident has caused eyesight deterioration.

In any case, I have them now because I had the money to spare for them now. Would have had several months ago if my summer job had paid me, but there's not much point crying over bureaucratic foul-ups at this point.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my transition lenses. I will never own glasses that do not have thme ever again...

My one & only pair of those had (or maybe developed) a rather unpleasant yellow tint to them. And given my particular eye quirks, that was *very* bad indeed.

I haven't noticed any particular tint to these except dark.
They're also some kind of new generation transition lens which darkens and lightens more quickly, or something. As a result they come with a 30-day replacement satisfaction guarantee, though, so if they do annoy me I can swap them out.

I think "sorta" stylish is about all I can afford right now :-) Took me a while to find ones that worked well enough with my face and didn't cost $250 or whatever, so I'm happy enough with them.

Oh, absolutely - and to me, "sorta stylish" is more of a compliment than "very stylish" - I'm much more of a "let me have something that looks sorta stylish, cause it'll last longer as a sorta stylish than a very stylish would". If that makes any sense. :)
