Promises to keep

Had a group meeting today for all of our various CompSci education people. Looks like we've got a fair number of useful projects and people, now. It's nice to have people to collaborate with, or at least bounce ideas off from time to time.
As a minor milestone, I've got my first data visualization up and running today. Nothing particularly fancy yet - just a squiggly line on the screen - but I'm feeling a little more confident now that I've got actual live data being captured, logged and parsed well enough that I can show where someone's been walking in the environment, on the screen. Seems that C#'s Canvas widget is close enough to Java's AWT Canvas widget (which I used for a developing a tool during my MSc) that I was able to get something up and running in a pretty short timeframe. I'm sure there will be devils in the details that I'll need to exorcise sooner or later, but I'm glad to have at least got my feet wet.
Managing stress hasn't been going so well lately, to the detriment of my friends and loved ones. I've got to work on not overcommitting myself, and not trying to multitask when it's not appropriate to. When I'm at reduced capacity, I can get distracted too easily and important things can slip. Being scatterbrained does neither me nor anyone else any good. I've stuffed up more than a couple of times. Having been prompted to step back and look at what I was doing, I'll hopefully now be in a better state to fix the situation.
I really wish I could fast forward a couple of weeks, with the hours and thousands of miles of plane time behind me. There's still work that needs to get done before then, though. But I'll make it fit. I'll get into the rhythm of it, like swimming. Note to self: breathe above the waterline, push below the waterline; don't drown.
