Just so people know, I did manage to get re-enrolled at university and get a Student Allowance sorted again this year, though it took me around four days of sorting through the appropriate bureaucracies to do it.

As a result though, I've been stupidly busy since, trying to get stuff up and going again. I've submitted my Masters Thesis Progress Report (11 pages of it) through the appropriate channels, and people seem to be pleased and/or satisfied that I'm on-track with my research.

There was a bit of a setback in that I couldn't track down either the wide-angle lens or the IR filter plastic needed for the camera sitting behind my interactive screen. Over the last week, alternate IR filters and lenses had been found. Today I came into the lab to find that our IT tech had cleaned out his office over the weekend, and had found my original camera, complete with wide-angle lens, filter and mounting bracket, in an old A4 paper box - this means a heck of a lot less screwing about, as the software is already calibrated for just that combination of hardware. Now all we need to do is reassemble the prototype.

The software I've been writing to help speed up the video analysis I need to do for my interaction study is also nearly complete, so all going well I'll be able to recruit volunteers and get that done some time soon. Most excellent.

On Friday last week, I also got properly introduced to a lecturer who I'll be doing some tutoring for in the next semester, all going well.

Today Stephen Tindall, amongst other things founder of The Warehouse (New Zealand's answer to WalMart), visited the university to give a talk on New Zealand innovation. Before the talk he came through our lab, and seemed quite impressed with some of the projects going on, and the lab in general.

(Also, Vice-Chancellor Roy Sharp seems a lot shorter up close.)

In dental news, still no sign of when I'm going to be getting my wisdom teeth out, but at least now I know that it's going to cost $271. I just hope I don't have to spend too much on pain killers and so forth in the meantime, or in after-care while it heals.

Generally speaking, though, things are making progress pretty well at the moment.
