Wintry

Weather has been rather cool of late. However, I'm happy to say my soup-making skills haven't got too rusty over the last year or so :-)

Also, some of our neighbours seem to have an intermittent sheep. I shall endeavour to post photos sometime next week, as there's little more stereotypically New Zealand than sheep in someone's front yard deep in suburbia. Despite having almost never seen it in nearly three decades.

OMG! I finally felt like I was in NZ, for real, when I was walking to the beach near my house (Lyall Bay at the time) and one of the neighbourhood kids had his pet sheep on a leash and was waiting for the bus*.

Later I saw that kid and his sheep on the beach.

Later yet, I saw the sheep contentedly munching daisies in the front yard of a house a few blocks from mine.

Suburban sheep=awesome.



*To this day I wonder if the sheep was let on the bus.

It's a bit cold in Auckland too, although not nearly as much. Thankfully my developing cold was good enough to wait until just after exams before showing up.

There's a certain satisfaction one gets from giving someone cold a bowl of warm soup and having them sit down and devour it, punctuated only by the occasional happy mmm-ing noises, then hold up the bowl again for more :-)

Definitely good cold-weather comfort food.
