Totally off topic, and probably a very stupid question, but do you know anything about the University of Otago?

There's a flier up on the bulletin board in the department for their classics program. I looked at it a little bit online but was sort of wondering what the campus is like, what the students are like, what living expenses in that area are like, that kind of thing.

The campus is one of the nicest in the country. It is large and has lots of grass, trees, etc. The classics department is pretty neat. They have a classics club (that includes the teaching staff) and hold morning teas/coffee, plus BBQs and the like. I really enjoyed my time there.

Dunedin is a pretty cheap place to live. It is cold though, and the houses have no insulation. You get used to it, but it is a bit of a shock at first. The students were pretty friendly when I was there, but it depends who you hang out with really. The whole town (at least North Dunedin) is pretty much there for the students.

Yep, indeed :-) LTNS! I have a vague recollection I might have noticed you among Morbid's friends in the past too.

I was a student there and have worked there for years.

What do you want to know?

Mostly just the usual sorts of things--clearly you like it if you've gone on working there, but what makes you like it? What's the vibe like? How far does a fellowship stipend go in the area? Is it a nice place to live? How is the administration to deal with? What departments have you had direct experience with, and what were they like?
