Ice storm in Kentucky. Governor's declared a state of emergency. Over 100,000 people without power, including Jana who's ill with bronchitis. It's only a few degrees below freezing at the moment, and I hope it holds to that.

It's times like this that I most wish I wasn't several thousand miles away, even if all I'd have to contribute was an extra pair of hands and some body heat.

*hugs*

I hope she's okay.
Does she have family/friends there to care for her?

They declare states of emergency at the drop of a hat over here, just so you know. It keeps some folks off the roads, making it easier for rescue/snow removal crews to do their jobs. And, depending on the state/issue, it frees up emergency money to dedicate to certain things. It doesn't necessarily mean society is collapsing or anything.

Is her home warm? Does she have a generator (though it's hard to go out and add gas when one has bronchitis)? I grew up with regular power outages in the Midwest. We'd just bundle up and close off most rooms of the house to conserve heat.

Aw, love. It's natural to worry.

I'm sure she's holding out fine. As the previous poster said a state of emergency has a lot more to do with logistics most of the time - and access to funds as you've pointed out.

I'm sure everything is fine.

I will be sending positive thoughts out, just in case.

Fireplace, propane camp stove & lots of blankets. Two brand new oil lamps & more candles than I can count for light. And of course the fuzzies who are rather prone to snuggling with me as well. *smiles* Oh, and a gas water heater. So while it's not too useful for cooking or anything, I can still take a hot shower/bath. And the neighbors just got a kerosene heater & said I'm welcome to come over if I need to.

*squishsy hugs to everyone* Thanks for the concern & good thoughts.

Clearly you need to bring her over here where you can keep her warm with body heat ;)

But seriously, I hope she is okay and it doesn't lengthen the sickness :(
