Long-distance relationships are pretty much a suckful situation by definition, but I'm really glad I got to talk to Jana via Skype for a couple of hours tonight. Having a chance to just hang out and talk together - even with the various cute fur-kid interruptions - just makes life better.

Seeing her smile makes my heart sing. Every time.

I just wandered in from Cav's journal.

This made me smile and remember why I don't let the being about 250 miles away from my partner/the random hatefulness of the M1/not being able to see his crooked smile/the fact that shortly he'll be on an *entire other continent* for 6-7 months/etc get to me.

Yah, it's tough...Chelle is 500 miles from here (hence our choice of the Proclaimers' song as ours), and it's only due to her primary partner's good income that we get to see one another as often as we do. Two more years, or so, and then they can immigrate and move much, much closer. *hugs* cause, yah, it's hard, but rewarding.

Knowing the wonderful lady in question, and wanting to get to know you much better as well I have to say I do understand how hard it can be. I am much closer than you and wish there was a teleportation device we could all use to move around so she and you can get more time, she and I can get some time, etc. I'm glad you 2 got the skype time. Skype is a great thing especially when far apart. Tif and I have a very close set of friends in which he is in Iraq, Wife is in NJ and girlfriend is in MD. He is there until October so when any of us get a little skype time with him its bitter sweet.

I totally understand what you are saying about the long-distance, having doen it myself for far too long. It makes me very thankful that now there is only 10 minutes and a few roads rather than an ocean between me and mine. Hopefully a simnilar reduction in distance can happen for you as soon as is practical.

Also just a little jealous for Skype, back in 2001-2003 my phone bills were sometimes remarkably painful.

*nod* It's a big relief to be able to put the money that might have been spent on phone bills towards physical travel.

She's certainly a strong motivation to keep working on my PhD and get it finished in a timely fashion, that's for sure.

when I'm feeling low, kirsten and i sometimes leave skype on our laptops next to the bed, so when we wake up, we can see the other person sleeping...

pretty slushy, but it really helps me feel a connection to her when she's away :)
