Around university we've had a rather curious little "viral" marketing campaign being done by Christian group "Student Life". They started with chalking up a lot of "Do you agree with Jeremy?" things all around campus, including on footpaths off-campus where the university shouldn't be doing anything.

Being the inquisitive kind of fellow I am, I did a bit of hunting around to see if I could figure out exactly what the deal was. Some people had said it was some kind of guest speaker or something. I found this, on someone's blog:
anyway: Do you agree with Jeremy? its Student Life's (another Christian group on campus) "project". first there will be banners carrying this question around campus, then there'll b people like us (student life is collaborating with other Christian groups like CU and ICF) wearing t shirts that says "I agree with Jeremy". then people would start asking questions without you having to initiate them. Then on August 10th (i think) Jeremy will be taking a leap of faith (that's the exact words) and stand outside the library stating what he believes.

cool huh? i thought that was a pretty good way to spread the Gospel.
Oddly enough, the first thing that several people have said that it brings to mind is not Jesus, but Pearl Jam:

At home, drawing pictures of mountain tops, with him on top.
Lemon yellow sun. Arms raised in a 'V'
And the dead lay in pools of maroon below.
Daddy didn't give attention, oh,
To the fact that mommy didn't care.
King Jeremy the wicked, oh, ruled his world...

I am tempted to encourage [livejournal.com profile] k2vsate to turn up on the day, with one of his many T-shirts that say "Jeremy" on it. False Messiah Olympics, anyone? :-)

So christians have found another way to brainwash the masses and infect the mindless herd.

I've never really gotten into the whole "viral" thing, though, so it does little but annoy me, as most pop culture trends do.
